Jamestown: Hometown 2.0: Melissa Thury – Business Coach & Founder of Balance & Business with Melissa
February 2, 2026
For Melissa, the magic of Jamestown is found in its people, especially the younger professionals who choose to stay or return to raise families and start businesses. She’s inspired by the generosity she sees all around her.
“The giving back that businesses and organizations do in Jamestown is overwhelming in the most positive way,” she said.
Local Favorites & Hidden Gems
When asked for her must-visit recommendation, Melissa didn’t hesitate. Hondo’s Hideaway tops her list.
“People forget about it because of the location and seasonality, but they have the best food and service in Jamestown, hands down. And you can’t beat the view.”
Outside of work, Melissa enjoys the simple joys of family time, reading, and playing card and board games.
A Community That Lifts You Up
Melissa is quick to point out what makes Jamestown different from bigger cities. Genuine support, collaboration, and recognition set it apart.
“You will never find a better community of people and professionals to support and uplift you,” she said.
She lights up every time the Chamber shares something about her business, and she’s experienced firsthand how eager local groups are to connect, collaborate, and cheer on new entrepreneurs.
“Anywhere bigger, you lose the collaboration, networking, support, and recognition that you get in Jamestown. People I am just meeting already know about my business because organizations like Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce or the Rotary are willing to talk about me.”
Advice for Young Professionals
Her message to anyone considering a move to Jamestown is simple. Lean in.
“Organizations and other businesses are excited to network and collaborate, so be willing to become a part of something.”
She also encourages newcomers and young professionals to find their people.
“Jamestown is full of people who want to build you up. Find them, connect with them, and be willing to collaborate as you grow.”
Looking Ahead
Melissa credits the confidence to start her business in part to watching other young professionals in her hometown succeed. Being surrounded by dreamers and doers made her feel like she could be one too.
Her journey is a reminder of what makes Jamestown special. It’s a community where people notice, support, and celebrate one another, and where coming home can be the first step toward something new.
