
Stutsman County’s Largest Employers: 2024 Snapshot

The North Dakota Labor Market Information Center has released its updated list of the largest employers in each county. The rankings are based on employment data from the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages (QCEW) program, reflecting the average number of payroll jobs reported in 2024.
For Stutsman County, the top 25 employers highlight the strength and diversity of the local economy:
- Walmart – General Merchandise Retail
- University of Jamestown – Higher Education
- Stutsman County Government – Local Government Services
- SMP Health – Ave Maria – Nursing & Residential Care
- Sanford Health – Ambulatory Health Care
- North Dakota State Hospital – State-Operated Hospital
- Newman Signs – Professional & Technical Services
- ND Department of Corrections – State Government
- Menards – Building Materials & Home Improvement Retail
- McDonald’s (Dakota Drive LLC) – Food Service
Other key employers include Jamestown Regional Medical Center, Jamestown Public Schools, Jamestown Parks & Recreation District, Hugo’s Family Marketplace, First Community Credit Union, Eventide Jamestown, Duratech Industries, City of Jamestown, Cavendish Farms, Cash Wise Foods, and the Anne Carlsen Center for Children.
These employers represent a wide range of industries, from health care and education to manufacturing, government, and retail. According to the report:
- Health Care & Social Assistance leads as the county’s largest sector, employing a significant share of the workforce.
- Public Administration (state and local government) and Educational Services also remain major contributors.
- The top employers are a mix of private businesses (17), local government (4), and state government (2).
This balance demonstrates Jamestown and Stutsman County’s strong position as a regional hub for commerce, education, health services, and manufacturing.
