Popular restaurants and major events often attract travelers to a city, but a thriving art scene can also be a big draw for tourists.
Expedia named the 26 most creative small, mid-size and large cities based on factors such as art festivals, top art schools, street art and community support. Expedia chose cities with a population under 1 million in the city center.
Here are a few standouts from each category:
Smallest: 1,000 - 19,999 people
Spring Green, Wis.
Saugatuck Douglass, Mich.
Ojai, Calif.
Small: 20,000 - 99,999 people
Oxford, Miss.
Quincy, Ill.
Minot, N.D.
Medium: 100,000 - 349,999 people
Boulder, Colo.
Cambridge, Mass.
Ann Arbor, Mich.
Large: 350,000 - 1 million people
St. Louis, Mo.
Honolulu, Hawaii
Mesa, Ariz.
