Jamestown: Hometown 2.0 – Julie Fischer, Office Manager at Looysen I Care

For Julie Fischer, Jamestown has always felt like home.

Although she wasn't born here, Julie moved to Jamestown with her family when she was seven years old after her father accepted a job in the community. Like many young people, she left to pursue college, but it didn't take long to realize where she wanted to build her future.

"I came back after college because I love Jamestown," Julie said. "It's where my family is, and I found a great work family, too."

Today, Julie serves as the Office Manager at Looysen I Care, where her career has taken an unexpected but rewarding path. She originally joined the practice as an Optometric Technician, planning to gain experience before continuing her education. Along the way, however, she discovered a passion for the field of optometry and the people she worked alongside.

"What started as a stepping stone turned into a career I truly love," she said.

That journey eventually led Julie into her current leadership role, where she helps keep the practice running smoothly while continuing to serve patients and support her team.

Outside of work, Julie says one of the things she appreciates most about Jamestown is how family-oriented the community has become as she and her husband raise their three children.

"There's always something to do with our kids," she said. "Whether we're visiting one of the parks, attending a community event, or participating in activities at a local business, there's always something happening."

When asked what newcomers shouldn't miss, Julie points beyond one of Jamestown's most famous attractions.

"Besides the World's Largest Buffalo, I'd definitely recommend taking the short drive out to Spiritwood Resort," she said. "It's a hidden gem."

When she isn't at work, Julie enjoys spending time with her family, running, baking, and tackling games and puzzles.

For young professionals considering making Jamestown home, Julie has a simple message.

"Just do it," she said. "The people here are incredibly welcoming. You'll build meaningful relationships and discover that you can make a visible impact much more quickly than you might in a larger community."

She believes that's one of Jamestown's greatest strengths.

"In a bigger city, it can take years to find opportunities to lead or make a difference. Here, we're small enough to have that family feel, but large enough to offer diverse career opportunities. You really get the chance to contribute, grow, and see the impact of your work."

Jamestown may not always be the biggest dot on the map, but for professionals like Julie, it's a place where careers flourish, families thrive, and community truly feels like home.
