Jamestown: Hometown 2.0 – Charlee Krieg, Multimedia Marketing & Design Specialist at Newman Signs
June 1, 2026
For Charlee Krieg, moving to Jamestown started with a volleyball program and a desire for a fresh start. Today, it's where she's building her career, growing professionally, and finding the kind of community that feels like home.
Originally from Cavalier, North Dakota, Charlee moved to Jamestown in August 2023 after transferring to the University of Jamestown. Having previously attended the University of Minnesota Crookston, she was looking for a new opportunity and a volleyball program that felt like the right fit.
"I had toured UJ before, so I knew the Women's Volleyball team was exactly the type of environment I wanted to be in," she said.
While pursuing her education, Charlee began an internship with Newman Signs during the summer of 2025. What started as an opportunity to gain experience quickly turned into something more.
"My internship was really fun," she said. "It mainly consisted of creating social media content, so that was fun to make Nick, the Sales Manager at Newman Print, be in all sorts of different reels."
By August, Newman Signs offered her a full-time position as Multimedia Marketing & Design Specialist.
Charlee credits that internship opportunity with helping her begin her professional journey and develop confidence in her skills.
"I am just really grateful that Newman Signs decided to take me on as an intern because it has allowed me to begin growing into my professional self."
One of her proudest accomplishments so far has been leading the design and development of the new Newman Print website.
"We wanted to create something that really drove home what we do here at Newman Print," she said. "I think I was able to achieve just that and possibly more."
Outside of work, Charlee enjoys thrifting, spending time with friends and family, playing with her cats, and finding opportunities to be outdoors.
When it comes to life in Jamestown, she appreciates the balance the community offers.
"I grew up in a small town, so I'm naturally drawn to that family-like community," she said. "Even with Jamestown being larger than most North Dakota communities, it still has that small-town vibe. I'm not much of a big city person, so I like how Jamestown has things to do while also not moving too fast."
For newcomers, one of her favorite local spots is Bufftown Bargains.
"Every time I go in there, I leave with way more than I ever need," she laughed. "When you can get shirts for two or three dollars each, you're going to load up your basket."
When asked what advice she would give other young professionals considering a move to the area, Charlee encourages people to keep an open mind.
"Give it a shot and see what you think," she said. "You never really know how something is going to work out unless you try it. I think a lot of people get really focused on larger cities because there are more opportunities, but smaller cities like Jamestown still have a lot to offer."
And for anyone wondering why they should start their career in Jamestown?
"We have the World's Largest Buffalo," she joked. "Literally no other city can say that."
Behind the humor is a message that resonates with many young professionals who choose to stay: meaningful opportunities, strong community connections, and the chance to build a career in a place that feels like home.
