    October 24, 2019

    Attention all medical facilities, nursing homes, assisted living deadline is December 1st!!

    The ND Department of Commerce is accepting applications from licensed health care facilities to participate in a new grant program designed to help attract qualified nurses to North Dakota and retain them.

    The 2019 Legislature authorized $500,000 in one-time funding for the Non-Resident Nursing Employment Recruitment Program. Commerce will provide up to $4,000 to qualifying health care facilities for each nonresident licensed nurse who signs a written agreement to work at least four years in a North Dakota licensed health care facility.

    Interested - here’s the link for more information and to apply.

    Participating health care facilities must provide a two-to-one match for a total of $12,000 in incentives to a nurse. This can include increased wages and stipends, bonuses, relocation costs, and housing assistance or equipment.

    Non-Resident Nursing Employment Recruitment Program

    Incentivizing employment provides a valuable way for employees to make career decisions based on locating and residing to specific areas in North Dakota.  The Nonresident Nurse Employment Recruitment Program is a grant program, designed to attract and retain highly-qualified nurses to North Dakota. The focus of the program is to assist in incentivizing the healthcare industry as a shortage in nursing is one of the state’s targeted industries. Priority will be given to rural facilities, facilities who have never participated in the program, and the hiring of diverse nursing specialties, i.e. behavioral health nurses, geriatric health nurses, intensive care specialized nurses.

    For the 2019-21- biennium, the North Dakota Legislature awarded the Nonresident Nurse Employment Recruitment Program $500,000. Healthcare facilities can access up to $4,000 of matching funds for each nurse relocating to North Dakota.  Applications are now available!

    The employer is responsible for selecting and hiring the licensed nurse. To qualify for the program, employers must select a nurse who is:

    1. Licensed to practice in the state of North Dakota;
    2. Identifies primary residence in North Dakota, or bordering states of Montana, South Dakota or Minnesota;
    3. Signs a written agreement to work at least four years in a North Dakota healthcare facility;
    4. Must be employed by the healthcare facility, not a contractor.

    *Please read the complete version of guidelines to determine if your facility qualifies for the program.
