After years of being nameless, The Worlds Largest Buffalo in Jamestown will soon be known as Dakota Thunder.
The Buffalo City Tourism Foundation announced Tuesday morning the name, as well as another name: Michael Shirek of Devils Lake, who won the $1,000 prize for entering Dakota Thunder as his choice for a name of The World’s Largest Buffalo.
Dakota Thunder will officially be named on Saturday, July 24 at 4 p.m. under the buffalo. Other activities planned for the big day included a Wild West Shootout, and a buffalo chip throwing contest.
Runner up entries in the Name That Buffalo Contest were Dakotah Spirit, Benny, Sir James and Beauford.
