City to conduct Sanitary Sewer 'Smoke Testing' — Wednesday, July 28, 2010
Starting on Thursday, July 29, the City of Jamestown Public Works Staff and Ulteig Engineers will be conducting “smoke testing” to identify weak or broken areas in the City’s sanitary sewer system.
 
Group wants a county road board — Published July 21 2010
Stutsman County officials met with sponsors of an initiated measure Tuesday to discuss the procedures for gathering petition signatures and placing the issue on the ballot. The measure seeks to create a public board of directors to provide oversight of the Stutsman County road system. The board would make decisions concerning the expenditure of road funds as well as define the county road system.
 
Commission considers road tax proposal — Published July 21 2010
The Stutsman County Commission briefly discussed the possibility of placing the road tax measure that failed in the June primary election back on the ballot in November during its regular meeting Tuesday. “The road measure went down by 299 votes,” said Dale Marks, county commissioner. “We still need the funding and people are telling us that we need to keep bringing it up.”

PSC takes testimony on application for wind farm — Published July 14 2010
VALLEY CITY, N.D. — The North Dakota Public Service Commission took testimony concerning a sighting application for the Ashtabula III wind farm north of Valley City Tuesday. If approved, construction could start on the 43-turbine, $140-million project by Sept. 1, according to Scott Scolvill, director of wind development for NextEra Energy of Florida. NextEra Energy will submit some late fillings and a PSC ruling is anticipated in late July or early August.

Jamestown is asking residents to restrict water usage through Wednesday morning due to construction at the water treatment plant. “If the community cooperates we’ll get through this easily,” said Steve Suko, city utility operations director.

For newly elected Mayor Katie Andersen, this is the first job she’s had that actually corresponds to her political science degree. The 28-year-old Andersen is only the second woman to be mayor of Jamestown. It wasn’t a job she expected to have, at least not yet.
